Fall 2012 fashion trends: Major jewels

Oscar de la Renta has once again reinvented a typical trend into the atypical. Jewel tones are the fall/winter alternative to neutrals - black, khaki and winter-white. And thank goodness for them! Don't get me wrong, I love black. Half my wardrobe is black and white, but sometimes we need a pop of color to keep us from looking like we're attending a funeral daily. It's the playfulness of fashion that keeps us coming back and de la Renta has been playing with jewels this season to bring us something exciting and fresh.

De la Renta enlarged images of his popular jewelrywhich, this season, includes large gems and pearls reminiscent of Elizabethan fashion – and had them printed on the silk he used for his Fall 2012 RTW collection. This season, de la Renta has ensured that winter will not be bleak, but in fact, it will be glamorous. While leaves may be falling from the trees, frocks and fingers can be dripping with richly-colored jewels and the figure will still be modern and flattering. If you had any doubts before (which, frankly, you shouldn't have) this versatility, confidence and playfulness is why he is lauded as a king of fashion.
